    Mouse of the Month archive

| Agreement for international recovery of cryopreserved mouse strains from
| repositories

The Federation of International Mouse Resources (FIMRe) is a collaborating
group of Mouse Repository and Resource Centers worldwide whose collective goal
is to archive and provide strains of mice as cryopreserved embryos and gametes,
ES cell lines, and live breeding stock to the research community. The FIMRe
provides the International Mouse Strain Resource (IMSR), a searchable online
one-stop shop of mouse strains and stocks available worldwide.

Most of the strains are cryopreserved as embryos, gamets and ES cells.
Many biomedical researchers, however, do not have their own technical expertise
or facilities to rederive live mice from frozen stock and they have difficulties
to use the frozen strains for their research. To improve this condition,
FIMRe members have decided to facilitate international recovery of cryopreserved
mouse strains from repositories. FIMRe members have their own cryopreservation
facilities and technical expertise to rederive live mice from frozen stock. You can
choose a regional FIMRe member as the site of recovery of cryopreserved mice, the
FIMRe member can help you recover live mice from other repositories. To use this
service, please ask your regional FIMRe member.

| Mouse strains for freeze preservation

Since enough number of embryos has been preserved, live mice of these
strains will be closed soon. It will take more than 3 months to recover
live mice from frozen stock. Please let us know as soon as possible, if
you plan to use the mice and request them alive.
