|  Rodent respiratory infectious bacteria 'CAR bacillus' finally got 
|  the binomial name 35 years after its first description

 We are proud to announce that our manuscript regarding 'CAR bacillus' 
taxonomy was accepted and will be published in Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol. 
The cilia-associated respiratory (CAR) bacillus was an extracellular, 
Gram-stain-negative filamentous bacterium, discovered as one of etiological 
agents of chronic respiratory diseases in rats and mice, and designated after 
its colonization site, the ciliated respiratory epithelium, by Ganaway et al (1985) 
after its first description by van Zwieten et al. (1980).

The new scientific binomial name of 'CAR bacillus' will be,
Phylum: Bacteroidetes
Order: Sphingobacteriales
Family: Filobacteriaceae fam. nov.
Genus/Species: Filobacterium rodentium gen. nov., sp. nov.
Type Strain: SMR-CT

The type strain was deposited in JCM (RIKEN BRC, Japan) and DSMZ (Germany) 
and will be accessible soon.
RIKEN BioResource Center Experimental Animal Division will use Filobacterium 
rodentium for the 'CAR bacillus' agent in the health certificates from January 2016.

Fumio Ike, Mitsuo Sakamoto, Moriya Ohkuma, Ayako Kajita, Satoru Matsushita, Toshiaki Kokubo. 
"Filobacterium rodentium gen. nov., sp. nov., a member of Filobacteriaceae fam. nov. 
within the phylum Bacteroidetes, and includes microaerobic filamentous bacterium isolated 
from rodent respiratory disease specimens" Int J Syst Evol Microbiol., doi: 10.1099/ijsem.0.000685.
