Visualization of Primordial Germ Cells in Vivo

Strain description: Developed by Dr. Kuniya Abe (1999). The GOF-18/delta PE/EGFP plasmid was injected into the pronucleous of C57BL/6 fertilized eggs. GOF18ΔPE was prepared from Oct4 18-kb genomic fragment by deletion in the proximal enhancer (ΔPE). The Oct4 gene is known to be expressed in primordial germ cells and undifferenciated spermatogonia in new born mice. This strain is useful to isolate living primordial germ cells which specifically express green fluorescent protein at various stages of embryonic development.
