2012年のノーベル医学生理学賞は「成熟した細胞を、多能性を持つ状態に初期化できること」を発見した、京都大学iPS細胞研究所長の山中伸弥教授と、英国ケンブリッジ大学のジョン・ガードン博士が受賞しました。山中教授らのグループは2006年に、マウスの線維芽細胞にOct3/4、Sox2、c-Myc、Klf4の4つの因子を強制的に発現させることで、人工多能性幹細胞(iPS細胞)を作製することに成功しました。2007年には同様の手法を用いて、ヒトの線維芽細胞からiPS細胞を樹立することに成功し、今回の受賞につながりました。
理研バイオリソースセンターは、山中教授から多数のマウスおよびヒト細胞リソースを寄託いただき、国内外の研究機関に提供しています。実験動物開発室では、iPS細胞が作製できる線維芽細胞を単離するためのツールである、Nanog-GFPトランスジェニックマウス(RBRC02290)を始めとした下記のマウスを提供しています。また、マウスおよびヒト由来のiPS細胞は、細胞材料開発室から提供しておりますので、こちらをご参照ください。
